Second Grade Teacher's Message

06/01/2010

Dear Parents, Assalamu-Alaikum.

The second and third grade students have been quite busy with their academics and extra curricular activities. Besides their regular tests, they are preparing for the CTP-4 testing. I will be sending out work sheets for review in Math and Language Arts. Please make sure that your child works on it and brings it to school every day for revision. I really need your cooperation in this matter.

Dear Parents, Assalamu-Alaikum

The second/third grade students have been busy and are in full swing with their academics. We are at the close of the first trimester. It has been a challenging journey and the children are completely involved now with the school and its schedule. They have been doing a lot of extra curricular activates as well. They will be going through their final tests for the first trimester and their report cards are due soon

We will have the winter break in December. I want the students to enjoy their break, but I also want them to spend some time to do their basic studying. I will be sending out packets for CTP - 4 preparations, Insha Allah. Please make sure that your child does this with understanding and with full focus.

I express my deepest gratitude to all the parents for their concern, valuable suggestions and constant support. I also express my gratitude to Fouzia, Imen’s mom, for supporting my class and me this year. She spends three full days of the week in my classroom volunteering. Most of all, she helps students who need a one-on-one in improving their academic skills. May Allah bless her always! Thank You Fouzia!

Remember it takes an effort on both our parts when creating the future Muslim leaders of the world. Please work with your child, with basics in Math and Reading. It is with your motivation that they will be successful. Once again, I thank you very much for all that you have done for the school and my class. I also take this opportunity to wish you all Happy Holidays and a Very Happy and Prosperous New Year!

Dear Parents, Assalamu-Alaikum Alhamdulillah, we started the New Year with the blessed month of Ramadan. Welcome to another exciting new school year at New Horizon-LA. I am Shaheda Irshad, and I teach Science, Reading, Language Art, Vocabulary, and Math for the Second and Third grades. I also teach Social Studies to the third grade. With lots of new exciting, challenging and rewarding curriculum ideas, 2009-2010 promises to be an exciting year for the students. With the guidance from Allah and your support, InshaAllah, I shall strive to make your child become a better Muslim and a good citizen of the world. Together we can make it a successful venture. If a child is provided with a nurturing environment, he/she will be encouraged to reach the academic and moral excellence. I believe the learning of a child requires the combined effort of both the parents and the teachers, so let us join hands for the benefit of your child.

As I get to know the students, I want to assure you that I will work to meet their individual needs throughout the year and that our class will be engaging in a variety of group and individual learning activities that all students will be able to benefit from Inshallah.

The responsibility of each student is to study, to maintain, to endure to overcome, and to understand the importance of failure to become successful. There is only one return for hard work, success. With work and concentration on the student’s part, with involvement in their studies on your part, together we can ensure that their academic experiences this year will not only be enjoyable, but also be very rewarding.

Since we started, the 2nd/3rd Graders are trying to adjust themselves to the daily routine and the students have been working in full swing, in both academics and extra curricular activities. We are starting to do science projects during the science periods in the science lab. They have been enjoying every moment of it.

I hope you have all received my welcome letter and the supplies list. Please make sure that your child has all their supplies every day and cover all the books as these things are very important. I look forward to working together with you in the days ahead and may Allah help us with our duties to make our children better Muslims and citizens of this world. Shaheda Irshad

Dear Parents, Assalamu-Alaikum.

It seems just yesterday that I had the honor and opportunity to be a part of your child’s life. The year has almost come to an end. I had a challenging yet wonderful experience in teaching, sharing and getting to know each of these bright students.

The WASC visit and the Spring Open House was a grand success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank every one who helped in making it successful. Studies show that the involvement of parents at school helps in the overall development of a child. Thank you all once again, for all the help and cooperation that you have rendered to me in making this year a successful one!

At this time of the year, I express my deepest gratitude to Allah first, & then Fouzia, who has tirelessly been with me throughout the year helping me with all the challenges and needs the students and I faced. Thank you Fouzia! I would also like to thank all the parents for their concerns, valuable suggestions and constant support. It has been a rewarding experience to be a part of your child’s life. I wish them all the success in life. Have a safe and delightful summer!

Dear Parents, Assalamu-Alaikum.

The second/third grade students have been quite busy with their academic and extra curricular activities. Our next big, competitive event is the “Spelling Bee,” and students will be participating in the contest. I have given out the spelling list sometime back. We will be using words from this list for the spellings every week. Students need to memorize the spelling by saying them well. The World Math Day was a great success. Students participated in it and linked live and globally to other students all around the world. It was a very exciting experience for them.

We will be starting to prepare for the CTP-4 testing soon. All tests will be based on these tests from now on. I will be sending home extra practice worksheets for practice. We will be discussing these in class as well. Make sure that the students complete these worksheets on time. I really need your cooperation in this regard. Practice for these tests is very important. Besides these students will have their regular tests and homework. Please make sure all work is done on time. Some students have pending work and are pushed into completing it during their recess or activity time. I sometimes have to send it home to complete it along with the homework, which is extra work for them. Please talk to your child in this regard.

Our Annual Benefit Dinner was very organized & successful. Students took part in the program. Please support the school and participate in all school events. Remember, it takes a village to raise a child.

The students are excited and look forward to moving on to the next step in their educational life. Your help and cooperation is deeply appreciated. Please keep in touch with me for the betterment and progress of your child. Together with the guidance and help from Allah (SWT), we can make the life of every child, a better one. It is a pleasure to be a part of your child’s life. I also take this opportunity to Thank You all for all the support you have been rendering towards making this school year a great success, Insha Allah.

Assalamu-Alaikum. I am happy to inform the parents that the second graders are showing great improvement in their academics. They choose a state of their choice to do a project in social studies and did a good job. We have started multiplication and our next step will be division and fractions. Inshallah we will be trying our best to complete our curriculum by the end of the next month.

Please check your child's assignment book each day to ensure that the homework is complete. Your involvement in their studies makes a world of difference.

I hope to see you all at our Annual Spring Fair and Sports Day.
