PE Teacher's Message

12/21/2009

Dear Parents, the PE classes are going very well and the students are having a great time learning movement skills.

Currently the K-5 grades are doing a unit on hockey. They are learning safety, stick handling, dribbling, hockey shots and rules. The older students are applying their skills in hockey games, while the younger students are playing games to learn the skills. They get a lot of exercise playing hockey and have a great time. They are also doing fitness activities in each class. After we finish the unit on hockey, they will start a unit on basketball followed by volleyball.

Pre-S and Pre-K students are also very active in the PE classes. They learn movement skills by playing games that are very enjoyable to them. They also learn how to use balls, hoops, beanbags, deck rings, etc. We will soon be starting a unit on gymnastics. It's nice to see how happy they are when coming to class. I hope all of you have a great holiday.

Dear Parents, It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of the school year. The students have been marvelous in PE and we had a great year. I am very impressed with our students effort and overall development.

As we still have another month of classes, I would like to mention some of the things we are going to do.

Grades 2-5 will be doing a unit on softball skills. While the 2nd and 3rd graders will primarily work on throwing, catching and batting skills, the 4th and 5th graders will play modified softball games. The K-2 students will be doing units on throwing, catching and rolling. The Pre-K and Pre-S classes will practice using balls, hoops and jumping. They will also play games that train physical fitness and movement skills.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the coming events at the school.
