Every year, to help the Islamic Center of Southern California, New Horizon School - LA provides child care for children so that their parents can pray Taraweh at the Center. All parents are urged to volunteer to baby-sit at least one evening from 8:30 to 11:00 pm. You can bring your children with you. This way we will not have to hire a babysitter and save money and you will be able to complete your service hours. There are only 15 days of Taraweh left. Please sign up in the office and help the PTO.
The Lunch program will be offered 5 days a week from Monday – Friday at the cost of $70.00 per month (see flyer). Students who bring their own lunches must include nutritious items and label the lunch boxes. Food may be warmed by students in Kdg. - 5th grade by themselves in the Social Hall. For Pre-School microwavable food should be packed in proper containers and labeled. Hot lunches will be served only when the lunch form is returned with the check before the 1st of the month. No exceptions.
It is advised that you arrive to school 5-10 minutes before that time. Students arriving after 8:00 am will be marked tardy. The upstairs door will be locked at 8:05 am and students coming late will miss the first period and will get a tardy slip from the office. After the second tardy in a week the child will be sent for Friday detention. No parents will be allowed to accompany the students or carry bags upstairs.
For Pre-school and Pre-kindergarten circle time begins at 8:45 am. and class instruction at 9:00 am. The class ends at 3:30 pm. Students enrolled in these programs have the option of arriving between 7:00 am and 8:30 am and being picked up between 3:30 pm and 5:15 pm at no additional charge.
For all students, classes will be dismissed at 3:30 p.m. The Extended Care program for Kdg.-5th will be offered from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm at a charge of $100.00 (this fee also covers morning day care if you bring your child between 7:00 am and 8:00 am). Please register for extended care at the school office. Since school is reopening in Ramadan, classes will be dismissed at 3:15pm till the end of Ramadan.
This year PE is scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays for all students.
The elementary classrooms, Computer Lab, Science Center and the Aldeen Library are on the second floor. We use the inside stairway from the Social Hall to enhance security. Parents are not allowed upstairs. Kdg. to 5th grade students will be received and dismissed from the elementary playground. Please pick them up on time. There will be a late fee of $7.00 for picking up students after 3:45 pm and $15.00 after 5:30 pm.

Our children’s education is enhanced by the close partnership we have between home, school and community. The parent service program at New Horizon School is a great way for parents to make a difference by volunteering and being part of a winning team! Studies show when parents get involved in their child’s education good things happen. Their grades and test scores improve, they develop better social skills and self-esteem rises.
